ASME to Convene Visualize MED Modeling the Future of Medicine in October

ASME to Convene Visualize MED Modeling the Future of Medicine in October ASME to Convene Visualize MED Modeling the Future of Medicine in October ASME to Convene Visualize MED Modeling the Future of Medicine in OctoberThis October, ASME will present Visualize MED Modeling the Future of Medicine, a daylong event that will explore how biomedical companies can leverage modeling and simulation to increase patient safety and positive outcomes, reduce preclinical and clinical testing, improve manufacturing and medical device performance, and decrease development costs. The conference will take place Oct. 22 at the Millennium gasthof in Minneapolis, Minn.Modeling and simulation has been used for decades in such industries as automotive and aerospace, and increasingly is being used in the medical device and dental industries. Combined with strategic experiments, this approach has demonstrated increased patient safety, boosted innovation, shortened the time required for approval by the FDA, a nd reduced the time and cost of clinical trials. At Visualize MED, attendees will explore the far-reaching opportunities that modeling and simulation offer. Last years event brought together engineers, modelers, executives and technology decision makers from government, universities and more than 35 companies including Medtronic, Stryker, JJ, Zimmer Biomet, Boston Scientific, WL Gore and Associates, Siemens PLM, ANSYS, Dassault Systmes and Synopsis Simpleware. This years conference is expected to draw representatives from even more companies from the medical device and dental industries who are interested in networking, meeting with modeling and simulation experts, and seeing how their businesses can leverage modeling and simulation in the product development and regulatory submission processes.Visualize MED will include live hands-on demonstrations as well as case studies and presentations that will show attendees how industry leaders are using modeling and simulation to make medica l devices safer and more reliable while reducing product development timelines and informing, supporting, and in some cases replacing clinical trials. This years program will tritt off with an interactive session, Transforming Medical Device Design Product Development, featuring Arlen Ward, modeling and simulation principal at System Insight Engineering Kerim Genc, business development manager at Synopsys Inc. and Ali Kiapour, senior principal RD engineer at 4Web Medical Inc. The session will be followed by a panel discussion, Industry Standards and Safeguards, with Windi Hary, senior vice president, Global Clinical, Quality and Regulatory Affairs at HeartFlow Inc. Marc Horner, principal engineer, Healthcare Applications at ANSYS Inc. Chris Mullin, director of product development strategy at NAMSA and Markus Reiterer, senior principal scientist at Medtronic. The afternoon program will feature a deep-dive breakout session, Digital Technologies A Step Forward in Dentistry. Moderated by Orlando Lopez, program director at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the session will feature speakers Eric Bright, vice president, Atlantis Global Development RD, Dentsply Sirona Implants Alex Fok, director of the Minnesota Dental Research Center for Biomaterials and Biomechanics at the University of Minnesota Maria J. Troulis, chief of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and James Xia, director of the Surgical Planning Laboratory and professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Houston Methodist Research Institute. The final panel of the day, which will be moderated by Shaye Mandle, president CEO of the Medical Alley Association, will focus on the emerging opportunities digital technologies provide for unprecedented patient-centric care. During the session, Marc Horner from ANSYS will address clinical applications of modeling David Odde, professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Minnesota will discuss the top ic Modeling of Cell Migration and Division in Cancer and Windi Hary of HeartFlow Inc. will address the subject Software as a Medical Device.Registration for ASME members is $249 $50 off the nonmember price.
